CoinFest, a convention for bitcoin and cryptocurrency enthusiasts, was held in Vancouver this past weekend. The event saw a turnout of over 1,000 people, who came to learn about and trade various altcoins.
The convention was organized by brothers Adam and Darren Tucker, who were inspired to create the event after attending other cryptocurrency conventions. "We were looking for a convention to go to, and we couldn't find one that was really specific to bitcoin and altcoins," said Darren. "So we thought, why not put one on ourselves?".
The convention offered a variety of activities for attendees, including a meet-and-greet with developers of various altcoins, a "CoinFest Challenge" in which contestants competed to create the best cryptocurrency-related project in just 24 hours, and a vendor hall in which attendees could purchase altcoin-related merchandise.
One of the highlights of the convention was the keynote address given by venture capitalist Brock Pierce. Pierce is a co-founder of the Bitcoin Foundation and has been involved in the cryptocurrency industry since its early days. In his address, Pierce spoke about the future of bitcoin and altcoins, and how they can be used to create a more decentralized world.
"I am incredibly bullish on bitcoin and the cryptocurrency space in general," said Pierce. "I believe that they are going to change the world in a fundamental way, and I'm excited to be a part of it.".
The convention also featured a number of panels and workshops, including a panel on the legal aspects of cryptocurrency, a workshop on how to start mining altcoins, and a panel on the future of bitcoin.
CoinFest was a success, and the Tucker brothers are already planning next year's event. "We're looking to make CoinFest even bigger and better next year," said Darren. "We're hoping to attract even more attendees and exhibitors, and we're planning some really exciting new features.".
